NASHUA - lil' iguana, the
live-action, child-safety character invented by local entrepreneur Jim Tomaszewski, is
going overseas.
Tomaszewski said a television station in Singapore has bought the rights to air the
lil' iguana Show, 13 episodes of which have been produced by and aired on WABU-TV (Channel
68) in Boston. He said additional episodes will air overseas as they are produced, through
2002.
The lil' iguana Show, which won a New England Emmy award for graphics and set design
this spring for its creator and artists, promotes child safety through stories, music and
dance.
Tomaszewski said the Singapore deal includes a merchandise licensing agreement. The
lil' iguana image will be used on a variety of children's' consumer products, he said,
like T-shirts, in exchange for a percentage of sales.
"It puts us on the map," Tomaszewski said the overseas deal. "It doesn't
make us a ton of money but it gives us a licensing agreement. We send them art and they
put I on product."
Tomaszewski owns J.E.L.T., a Nashua graphic design company. He came up with the green
lil' iguana character about three years ago. In addition to the television show, lil'
iguana performs at schools, fairs, festivals and parades around New England. Tomaszewski
said he is working on a lil' iguana Family Festival scheduled for Oct. 3 on Artillery
Field behind Holman Stadium.
Tomaszewski said the show will air in reruns through September on Channel 68, but will
be produced elsewhere in the future.
